best practices in social media (G029)

Workshops > Government > Complete List > Social Media

WHY SHOULD YOU ATTEND?

We are in the middle of a social, technological, communication and media revolution.

Social media - blogs, podcasts, Facebook, Wikis, YouTube, Flickr, del.icio.us - have given each of us the ability to connect with others who share our interests and create and exchange content with them. People have embraced these opportunities, writing, uploading, networking and viewing in unprecedented numbers. Traditional media have already felt the impact as share of audience attention has shifted from mainstream media to social media.

These changes have tremendous importance for organizations. The era of the passive audience is past. People are using social media to talk about and back to organizations. If they like their experience with you, they'll tell you. If they don't, you'll hear about that as well. In this environment, organizations and communicators must learn the new rules - the importance of long term community building, transparency, authenticity and the culture of generosity.
